HAPPY ENDINGS

FREDDIE

Many of you will remember Freddie the Rottweiler.  He is only a young dog but needed expensive operations on both hind legs.  He is such a loving and gentle dog that we wanted to give him every chance, so with your help (and a lot of hard work from his new family) the money was raised.  Freddie will be staying with his new family on a permanent foster basis, meaning that if he should develop any more mobility problems we will help as far as possible. THANK YOU to everyone who donated to Freddie's Fund.  Here are a few words from his new home:

Fred came into our care in desperate need of 2 hind cruciate ligament replacements. He was a true gent about it and never once complained, despite the pain he was in. He was just so happy to have a home to call his own. He was amazing with my 11 cats, 9 chickens, 2 turkeys and my old lurcher, Gumbo. Fred can always be found curled up with cat or 3. If they dont come to him he will go to look for one! His best friend was a cat called Elmo, who adored Fred, sadly Elmo was run over a month ago and Fred mourned him as much as we did. We got a new friend for Fred recently and it was best buds at first sight (as the pictures will tell!). Despite Elijah's tiny size Fred is as delicate as can be with both Elijah and his sister Flea.

Fred had his first cruciate done just one week after arriving. I even managed to persuade the specialist veterinary hospital to reduce the price to less than half. They repaired the right one first as this was the worst one of the two. The op was a complete success...until he had the second one done in October, unfortunately after he had the left leg done he understandably had to over compensate and use the right one twice as much. Sadly he is now showing some discomfort still and xrays are required on both legs but in particularly the right. It may mean that he has to have the miniscus (the little cushion in between the two joints) removed. On a positive note the left knee has healed brilliantly.

Sadly Fred still has a little way to go before being 100% but I'm sure with all your help, C.A.R.E and lots of love from me and mine he will be right up there where he belongs! Despite my misgivings about getting a rottweiler he proved me wrong on every level. He is the sweetest, most loyal, soppiest and lovable dog anyone could ever wish for. The worst part about this story is Freddie is only 2 years old, a dog of this age should never be in this position. Bad breeding and ignored medical advise from his previous owner only compounded Fred's agony. But whilst he is with me I will do everything in my power to give this very deserving dog the life he is owed.

I am so incredibly grateful to every single person who has donated towards Fred's new life, without you he would never be here now! (We are still fundraising for some of the little extra's like on-going meds, xrays and possible further op).

 Thank you all,

Emma, Freddie and the herd xxx

MICKEY

Mickey the 9 year old Chihuahua had a bit of muscle wastage as he had been carried around rather than being allowed to walk.  Despite this he is a happy little dog, and fell passionately in love with the Golden Retriever at his foster home.  As a result of this (well, actually we think it was more a case of the human being unable to let him go) he will be staying there permanently.

BO

It has been a 2.5 years since Bo found his forever home after bouncing through so many first.  He is the type of dog demonised in the press - he is a Staffie Cross.  We wanted to put him in the Happy Endings to show what one of these so called Devil Dogs can do - Bo has recently passed his assessment to be a Pets as Therapy Dog!  Just goes to show how the media hype can be completely untrue, a dog should be judged on its own merits, not on the misbehaviour of one or two owned by idiots.

JED

Jed has been in his new home for 3.5 years now, but again we felt he should be in the Happy Endings as he is another dog who was overlooked for so long.  His crime was that he was born deaf.  To many people a deaf dog is handicapped, cannot do things a normal dog does, is untrainable.  Jed plays off lead, he is a Pets as Therapy dog, and this picture is from the Welsh Festival of the Horse, when he was part of a team demonstrating Fly-Agility (a sport where the dog and handler have to be in constant communication) in front of hundreds of people..... so much for "a deaf dog cannot do anything!"

HI Chris
The boys are doing really well and enjoying the garden and our
friendly neighbours. Luckily they are also doing really well with house training, neither of them are perfect yet, but they are picking up the idea well enough for little pups. To begin with they were very scared of everything outside of teh house, but with a lot of little walks, keeping the house in sight they are now walking for about a mile twice a day on the lead. That said when they do see the house again they do pick up pace quite a lot, also if we meet anyone they know they are keen to go home with them instead! Following advice from several dog owners we have introduced them to many different people/animals/children etc and they are now very popular little guys with the local kids, although only during play times as they get tired and then a bit over-excitable otherwise.

Many thanks again for our gorgeous boys, we couldn't be happier together!

Thanks

Reggie day 3   Reggie will be spending the rest of his life as a long term sponsor dog.  He has gained a fantastic amount of confidence from the gang of hooligan dogs he is fostered with and around the house and garden you only see the occasional glimpse of a scared dog.  Once past the garden gate though he becomes terrified, even when one of the other dogs is with him.  It is going to be months before he can even walk to the end of the cul de sac, let alone go near a road where there will be cars going past.  He has a couple of medical issues but nothing which cannot be put on hold until he is able to be examined by the vet without snapping through fear.

You can see the change in him from when he first came in Reggie when he first came in , how he relaxed within just a few hours of being in a foster home with other dogs Reggie in his foster home day 1 and then how he loves to run around the garden with them Reggie day 3

Sid the Staffie was found wandering on the streets in Kent - another dog simply discarded when his owner got bored.  He was in danger of being killed simply because there are so many staffies in rescue already.  Luckily a dedicated group work tirelessly to find spaces for these dogs, and although we cannot normally take dogs from out of the area we made an exception to help "one of those Staffies".  Sid turned up and what a fantastic ambassador for the breed he is!  Dog friendly, child friendly, just glanced at the kennel cats, perfectly happy for anyone to pull him around and examine him.  He had a few people interested in him but when the wife and son of our Chief Transporter met him that was it!  Sid's fate was sealed!  Think of some of the breeds vilified in the press - the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the Rottweiler and the Mastiff.  Add a Belgian Shepherd dog into the mix and according to the red tops you would have a whole pack of wild, vicious status dogs - well here they are!
